A metric may be correctly calculated and still measure the wrong thing. A trend may be real without supporting the explanation attached to it. Two analyses may disagree because they are testing different parts of the same system.

The objective is not to force the data into a preferred model.
It is to determine which conclusions the evidence can actually support.

What additional measurement would distinguish them?
Methods may include statistical analysis, model comparison, matched comparisons, robustness and sensitivity testing, literature reconstruction, computational modeling, and custom diagnostic development.
The method follows the problem rather than the other way around.
